Donato Mancini

Donato Mancini (1473 - 1503) was a Templar agent during the Renaissance in Rome. He was killed by Ezio Auditore at the Circus Maximus in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. He also appear as a multiplayer character know as the captain, that uses a short sword and a dagger as weapon.

Legacy

Donato was known as the greatest rider in all of Cesare Borgia's army, a title Cesare envied. So Cesare ordered Fiora Cavazza to make Donato lose a race with him, through bribery or violence. He was offered an ornate suit of armor and many other gifts but he refused to back down steadfastly preaching that the winner is the winner. Despite their many attempts to stop his victory he emerged victorious making Cesare furious. He ordered Donato beaten and he was, brutally.

He was a man of honor which Fiora Cavazza respected.

Mancini's Demise

A merchant defeats Donato in a race. Mancini responds angrily to his defeat by destroying the merchant's stand and threatening his life. This is made known to the Assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze who decides to kill Donato. He locates him on horseback at the Circus Maximus, surrounded by his guards. Ezio proceeds to only kill Donato, sparing the lives of his guards.

Dialogue

Ezio encounters a merchant in the Antico District of Rome. He is examining what is left of his broken stand.

• Ezio: This was your stand?
• Merchant (Rocco): Si (Yes). Everything has been broken.
• Ezio: Who did this?
• Merchant (Rocco): Donato Mancini. I rode against his horse in the races and made the mistake of winning. You, though, everyone is talking about you! How you fight against the Borgia's men. Donato has demanded I meet him alone, I fear he intends to kill me.
• Ezio: Where can I find him?
• Merchant (Rocco): Grazie a Dio! (Thank God!) He is waiting at the Circo Massimo. (Circus Maximus.) That's where they hold their private races.

Ezio arrives at the Circus Maximus and overhears Mancini's plans for the merchant.

• Donato: You're dead, Rocco, you hear me!

Ezio assassinates Donato Mancini and lays him to rest.

• Ezio: Requiescat in pace. (Rest in peace.)

Unique Moves

Slice and Dice (Low Profile)

The captain walks up to the victim pulls out his sword and slices his\hers legs then the cheek and to finish off stabs them in the heart.

The Deep Stab (High Profile)

The Captain runs up behind the victim and pushes them to the ground, pulls out his sword and shoves the blade down his\her neck through the body. He pulls it out and sheaths his blade, letting the body fall to the ground.

(High Profile, Front)

The Captain pulls out his sword, and with a series of horizontal, vertical and diagonal slashes, he replaces it again, as his victim spins to the floor. This is different from the Slice and Dice because he never stabs his victim.

(Low Profile, Back)

The Captain pulls out his sword, and impales his target in the back. He twists the blade, making his victim twitch, before pulling his sword out, letting his target fall to the floor.

Donato's colors

Colors:

• Basic: Red and white leggings
• Extra 1: Navy blue and white leggings
• Extra 2: Purple and white leggings
• Extra 3: Teal and white leggings

Donato's gears

Gear:

• Advanced: Cleaner armor, added a small black and white Templar cross seal on the bottom center of chest guard, added golden color on tip of greaves (near knees).
• Superior: Modified right spaulder, added golden color on tip of vambraces (near elbows).
• Elite: Modified left spaulder, metal cestus becomes gold.

Database Entry

Date of Birth: 1473. Profession: Captain.

A veteran soldier under the Borgia, Donato also served in the city guard. The chroniclers at court describe him as a cold, loyal enforcer and an expert rider.

I'm not able to get in very far, but the Abstergo servers contain a small piece of data about him: "One of Cesare's top horsemen, Donato Mancini's skill is only surpassed by his ego."

That Cesare sure knows how to pick 'em.

Trivia

• His surname "Mancini" derives from the word "manco" which is Italian for "left-handed".
• The armor given to him by Fiora can be purchased in Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy. It is called the Decorative Armor, and its description shares that it is not made for comfort.
