The Dome of the Rock was an Islamic mosque and major landmark located in the city of Jerusalem. It was built between 689 and 691 AD atop of the Temple Mount. It is one of the most recognized and important Islamic shrines in the city, as well as the most coveted among three religions (Islam, Judaism, and Christianity).
Trivia
- Though the dome appears golden in Assassin's Creed and is golden today, it was not gilded until 1963. It was actually made out of black lead during the Third Crusade.
- A view point is positioned on top of the roof, as the top of the dome itself is inaccessible.
- Solomon's Temple is under the Dome of the Rock. The entrance is somewhere in the building near the Dome of the Rock.
- The multiplayer map Jerusalem in Assassin's Creed: Revelations takes place near the dome.
