Biography[edit | edit source]
According to the story, King Diomedes had a herd of mares whom he fed human flesh, driving them mad. This practice ultimately came to an end as King Eurystheas of Mycenae tasked his cousin Herakles to bring the horses to him as the eight of his labours during Herakles' twelve year servitude. Herakles rounded up the beasts with the help of Abderos, and then hunted down Diomedes. Meanwhile, the horses slew and ate Abderos so in return, Herakles fed Diomedes to his horses.[1]
