Diktys was a fisherman and the foster father of the hero Perseus in Greek mythology.
Biography
When the King Akrisios of Argos learned of a prophecy that he would be slain by his grandson, he attempted to prevent this. First, he locked his only child, his daughter Danae in a room of bronze. When the god Zeus impregnated her by visiting her in the form of golden rain, the king had both Danae and her baby shut in a crate and cast into the sea.[1]
Instead of dying, Danae and Perseus were saved by Diktys. He took them under his wing, raising Perseus. He taught Perseus to fish, hunt, and ride.[1]
