Very little is recorded of this group, leading me to wonder if there's any truth in their existence at all.
While it's safe to assume some complicity in the union of Muspels and Jotnar, it's equally safe to assume there was at least some lack of trust between Surtr, warlord leader of the Muspels, and Suttungr, King of the Jotnar.
My theory is that these Outriders originally served Suttungr, perhaps as spies. Or perhaps they chose another path, and served another being altogether, one who dwelled in the 'Ginnungagap'—the only other term associated with these elite Jotun warriors.
