Cursed Church

Cursed Church

The Cursed Church was an abandoned church that was inflicted by a plague of nightmares in the 9th century Isle of Skye.

History

During the 9th century, Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan investigated the Cursed Church after receiving information from a woman back in Kiltaraglen. Upon her arrival, Eivor noticed a mist fogging her view and piles of dead villagers surrounding the church's graveyard. With a closer look, Eivor saw a mysterious woman near the bodies and figured Valka's vision was right and called out for Randvi. However, the woman happened to be the Spartan mercenary Kassandra.

In response, Kassandra readied a axe and asked for Eivor's identity. Eivor smiled, picked up an axe herself, and readied herself to fight against Kassandra. Eivor and Kassandra fought against one another, despite landing no blows or blocking each other at every turn. Within their fight, both warriors broke their axes. Kassandra unsheathed her sword and sharpened herself a haft to dual-wield, while Eivor unsheathed two small axes. Blow by blow, Kassandra soon disarmed Eivor of one of her axes, only to stop Eivor's punch with her blade. Hesistating, Kassandra took notice of the blade, before being headbutted by Eivor.

Eivor continued the fight by throwing axes at Kassandra, who dodged every one. Both women continued their fight once more with their respective weapons, until Kassandra found an opening and kicked Eivor back. In response, Eivor used a rope dart to hit Kassandra, but missed and hit a shield instead. Charging, Kassandra headed towards Eivor, who pulled back the shield just in time to block Kassandra's attack. Eivor fought with her shield as Kassandra fought with her weapons, until Kassandra sacrificed her haft to disarm Eivor from the shield. In their last attempts, Eivor and Kassandra used their hidden blades, which each warrior blocking the other's attack.

At an impasse, Eivor and Kassandra agreed to talk as both revealed their ties to the Hidden Ones. Kassandra revealed that she was in search for the artifact causing the nightmares as Eivor relayed her wanting to stop the nightmares. Seeing their goals align, Kassandra and Eivor agreed to work together. Their first task was to destroy the curse inflicting the church, as to lift the fog blocking Kassandra's tracking. Both warriors headed towards the church and forcibly opened the door.

From their inspection, both warriors found their way to its underground crypt and found the cursed symbol. Destroying it, Eivor lifted the curse as both warriors left the premise soon afterwards.
