Crispus Attucks (c. 1723 – 5 March 1770) was a sailor born to an African father and an indigenous American mother. He was the first victim of the Boston Massacre.

Death

On 5 March 1770, hostilities between the British troops and the citizens of Boston culminated in the Boston Massacre, in which British soldiers shot into a crowd and killed five men.[1][2][3] Among them was Attucks, who died instantly after being shot. After his body was examined by Benjamin Church, it was discovered that two musket balls entered his chest, one of them goring the right lobe of the lungs and a large part of the liver in a gruesome manner.[3]
