They call me many things: Murderer. Cutthroat. Thief. But you may call me Comte d'Erpin.

This article is about a subject that lacks an official name and is known only by its nickname, title, or alias.

The Comte d'Erpin was a French noble.

In 1793, Mademoiselle Montansier arranged a meeting between the married man and one of her actresses, Jacqueline. Unbeknownst to the Comte, Jacqueline was to procure some specific information and relay it to Montansier. On a letter to her employer, Jacqueline noted that the Comte had "unusual predilections" and that they had planned several intimate evenings the following week, when his wife would be out of the country.[1]
