The church of Santa Maria Assunta (English: Assumption of Mary or Saint Mary's Assumption) is the main church in San Gimignano.
Referred to as the Duomo by the locals even though the town had no bishops, the church was built in the 12th century unlike the other churches in the city due to its lack of towers.[1]
