Climbing the Ranks is a memory in the Bonfire of the Vanities DLC pack for Assassin's Creed II.
Description
Girolamo Savonarola has The Captain Guard under his control. When Ezio Auditore approaches him, he states that he had devised this trap for those brave enough to oppose Savonarola. Many oppressors have already been killed by this captain. When Ezio kills most of the Captain's men, he begins to mock the Assassin for his hooded robes.
Dialogue

- Captain: Is this truly who I was? So proud and cruel...
- Ezio: No. Savonarola bewitched you.
- Captain: Did he? Or was it that I tasted power and found myself intoxicated? I wish I had been stronger.
- Ezio: As do I. Mi rincresce, ma non c'è altro modo (I am truly sorry, but there is no other way). Requiescat in pace (Rest in peace).
Outcome
Ezio assassinates the Captain, who regrets his arrogance. The Medici guards assume control of the area.
