Eivor outside Cashelore

Cashelore is a stone ringfort located in County Sligo, Ireland. During the medieval period, the fort was part of the Kingdom of Connacht.

History

In the late 9th century, the Viking jarlskona Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan joined the High King of Ireland, Flann Sinna, and her cousin Bárid mac Ímair, King of Dublin, in their assault on Cashelore. By conquering this fort, Flann would tactically sever ties between Connacht kings and Ulster kings. Before their attack, Flann had Eivor invade the ringfort and open the gates from within. Afterwards, Flann and his allies sacked the ringfort and took over the compound under his name. Afterwards, all celebrated inside their victory over establishing Flann's control.[1]

Through her time at Cashelore, Eivor also found a chest in its eastern castle. Breaking through the sealed door, Eivor opened it and claimed a tungsten ingot. Eivor also found and claimed Celtic Breeches, under the deck in the western tower.[2]
