Mounted cannons were the mounted version of regular cannons, and were situated on walls and towers. Mario Auditore had them installed in Monteriggioni in anticipation of an attack from the Borgia before they got back from the Vatican Vault in Rome.
Ezio used the cannons to defend Monteriggioni against the Borgia army to allow the citizens to escape the city. He aimed the cannons at the Borgia cannons to minimize the damage they would do to the city walls. However, Monteriggioni and its mercenaries were no match for the attacking army.
The cannons used black powder to fire a large, metal ball at enemies, dealing large amounts of damage with each strike.
