Calais is a port city in northern France.

History

On 7 February 1788, French Templar Élise de la Serre arrived at the port and entered a nearby tavern. Pretending to be strong, she asked for a captain to sail her to London, only to meet a man called the "Middle Man." However, their conversation soon turned sour as she and his men drew their blades. While Élise was captured, she found herself with another captive, a young girl named Hélène. Fortunately, English smuggler Byron Jackson found both Élise and Hélène and killed their captors.[1]

Leaving the scene of the crime, Jackson offered them a ride aboard his ship, the Granny Smith, as he worked to smuggle expensive goods along the eastern coast of England. After leaving the port, Hélène revealed that she came to Calais to find a new life with her uncle, but he sold her to the Middle Man as his personal slave.[1]

On 10 April 1788, Élise arrived back in Calais after her time in England was short-lived due to her rift with the Carroll's left them losing their daughter May Carroll and Élise's protector and British Templar Frederick Weatherall injured. Upon arrival, they all met their ally, Madame Levene, who aided in treating Mr. Weatherall's injury. However, the injury was too great and his leg had to be amputated. In a month, before they could leave Calais, Élise wrote to Jennifer Scott to apologize, to truly introduce herself, and to ultimately agree with both hers and her late brother Haytham Kenway's words to end the war between both the Assassins and the Templars.[1]
