The bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops) are a genus of dolphins. Bottlenose dolphins are aquatic mammals and highly intelligent. They can be found worldwide in most warm seas.
History
5th century BCE
Bottlenose dolphins inhabited the Mediterranean Sea at the times of ancient Greece, swimming alongside ships like Barnabas' trireme Adrestia and even accompanying swimming humans like the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[1]
During the Peloponnesian War the Athenian trireme Delos was adorned with dolphin imagery.[1]
18th century
During the 18th century, the pirate-turned-Assassin Edward Kenway shared the Caribbean Sea also with dolphins.[2]
