Borgia Towers were structures found within the Italian city of Rome, used by the Borgia as a display of their dominance over the city.

A Borgia Captain was assigned to each tower to lead the patrols, and to maintain control of each district. Though some would choose to fight off a threat alongside their guards, a number usually fled from confrontation, and sought sanctuary in the tower. The heavy fortifications served as effective protection for the Captain, who would only venture out again at the next guard shift.

In order to liberate Rome and humiliate the Borgia, the Assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze killed each tower's Captain, then burned down the tower itself, as a demonstration to the people that the Borgia's oppressive rule was coming to an end.

Once a tower had been destroyed, the Assassins rebuilt it and claimed it for themselves. With the tower under Assassin rule, Ezio was able to recruit one more potential apprentice, and manage his entire guild from there.

Additionally, the district around it would begin to show signs of civilized life returning; crime would decrease, as bandits would start to leave, and the guards in the area would reduce in numbers.

Citizens began to have a more prominent presence in the area as well wandering the streets. Shops and Landmarks in the area would also become available for purchase.

Trivia

• Borgia Towers serve as View Points for the surrounding area.
• Borgia Towers are surrounded by many crows, whereas the view points at its peak are circled by a single eagle, a prominent symbol of the Assassins.
• Burning a Borgia tower will automatically activate its view point, saving the player the effort of having to activate it separately.
• After the destruction of a Borgia tower, Vigilantes appear in the area to assist Ezio and hold back guards during a fight or chase.
• Viewing an unburned Borgia Tower with Eagle Vision shows the Borgia banners on its sides glowing red, similarly to an enemy.

Captains

• If a Borgia Captain escapes, instead of waiting 12 in-game hours, the player may quit the game and reload their save position to make the Captain reappear.
• If you kill a Borgia Captain and die before burning the tower, you will have to go through the process of killing him again.
• When the final Borgia tower becomes accessible, the Borgia Captain will be on top of the tower. If you send your apprentices to assassinate him, they will appear as if they have teleported there, but will stand still until they're out of sight, even when the tower is burning. Despite that, they will not die.
• All Borgia Captains with the last name "da Siena" will flee, as their description in the database suggests.
• The Hidden Gun is the only long-ranged weapon that can kill a Borgia Captain with one shot.
• Borgia Captains carry large amounts of money that may be looted.

Others

• The murders of Oliverotto da Fermo and Vitellozzo Vitelli took place in what appeared to be the same Borgia tower that kept Bartolomeo d'Alviano at bay. This causes conflict in the timeline, as Ezio destroyed the tower in 1500, while the murders of Oliverotto and Vitellozzo took place in 1502.
