Bitter Bow

The Bitter Bow was a rare type of light bow used throughout Egypt during the 1st century BCE.

Description

As with other light bows of the Ptolemaic Egypt period, the Bitter Bow was designed to nock and fire multiple arrows in rapid succession. It was quite powerful compared to its other counterparts in spite of its simple design which consisted of a dark brown arc wrapped at the grip.[1]

History

In 48 BCE, the Siwan blacksmith Benipe had a Bitter Bow for his shop. When his tools and products were confiscated by the local authorities owing to his rebel sympathies, Benipe was able to hide the Bitter Bow and three other of his most valuable items: the Pilum, Phalanx Shield, and Gruesome Mattock. With the return of the Medjay Bayek, Benipe's business was saved; the Medjay infiltrated Camp Shetjeh, which held his tools, retrieved them, and assassinated the captain responsible for harassing Benipe. Grateful for his friend's help, Benipe granted him one of his four specialty items for free in return.[2]
