Bissau is the capital and largest city of Guinea-Bissau.

History

In the early 18th century, the fortified city of Bissau was hugely popular with Portuguese sailors[1] and merchants, who set up a number of trading posts along Bissau's coves.[2] Taking advantage of the booming economy, the Welsh pirate Edward Kenway sent wine, tobacco,[1] and rice to the city.[2]
