I used a battle axe in Revelations, they were pretty darn quick (Guess that means Ezio is very strong) and in AC3 as Connor... it was slightly slow but it was effective when I used it.
EDIT: I can't believe I never noticed this and let it sit for almost thirty minutes. Shame on me.
