Oliver Bowden, the one who wrote The Secret Crusade, is not the one who wrote the storyline by himself; it's still Ubisoft's own storyline and is part of the canon - JUST AS MUCH AS THE GAMES. The games are NOT tier over any other media. When two things contradict each other, one has to take precedence over the other - and that is not automatically the game.
