The syntax for using this template is:

- The "Username" part is where the username of the author of the Fanon piece goes.
- The "type" parameter takes in two options:
- Write down "type=FanCanon" if the fanon does not contradict existing canonical ideas.
- Write down "type=FanNon-Canon" if the fanon contradicts existing canonical ideas
- The "extra" parameter, at present, takes four options:
- Write down "extra=Story" if the fanon is a story.
- Write down "extra=Character" if the fanon is about a character.
- Write down "extra=Animation" if the fanon is an animation piece (eg.videos).
- Write down "extra=Item" if the fanon is about an item.
