Zoroastrianism is a Persian religion. Its followers practice their faith in fire temples, where a fire is kept perpetually lit to symbolize light prevailing over darkness.

During the Tang dynasty, the imperial capital of Chang'an was home to a population of Zoroastrians, some of them from Sogdia,[1] and several fire temples were built in the city to support their religious practice.[2] The Chinese alternatively refer to the religion as "the religion of venerating fire" (拜火教).[1]
