Shaka kaSenzangakhona (c. 1787 – 1828), also known as Shaka Zulu, was one of the most influential monarchs of the Zulu Kingdom in the early 19th century.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Rising to power in 1816, Shaka proved himself a worthy King, transforming the once small tribe into a centralized kingdom.[1] Fearing his brutal rule and centralized power, he was ultimately assassinated in a plot orchestrated by his half-brothers Dingane and Mhlangana on 22 September 1828.[2]
Personality and traits[edit | edit source]
Shaka was known to be a brilliant military leader during his reign, having survived numerous assassination attempts.[2]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Cele portrayed Shaka in the 1981 stage play Shaka, the 1986 miniseries Shaka Zulu, as well as a 2001 miniseries Shaka Zulu: The Citadel.
