The Prytaneion

The Prytaneion was a building and court located between the bouleuterion and the Heliaia near the agora in Athens, Greece.

Built to serve as the prytaneis, the prytaneion also housed the fire of Hestia, which was used to light all the sacrificial fires within the polis. The prytaneis dined within the building, and seventeen of them also slept there,so that officials were always available.[1]
