Narses (Greek: Βαρδής; c. 478 – c. 573) was one of the great generals in the service of Byzantine Emperor Justinian I during his Roman reconquest. During the campaign, Narses won a victory over the Ostrogoths, which led Pope Pelagius I to build a church in Rome to celebrate his victory.[1]
