Murad IV (Ottoman Turkish: Murād-i Rābi; Turkish: IV. Murat; 26/27 July 1612 – 8 February 1640), born Murad bin Ahmed, was the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1623 to 1640.
Biography[edit | edit source]
In 1632, Murad witnessed the sustained, unpowered flight of Hezârfen Ahmed Çelebi, which took him across the Galata District and Bosphorus strait, landing safely on the shores of the Asian continent.[1]
Impressed by Hezârfen's apparently supernatural abilities, Murad paid him a large bag of gold coins. He then banished him to Algeria, where he died some years later.[1]
