Amphiaraos was a King of Argos in Greek mythology who established himself as a seer and a hero. He was also one of the seven leaders who led an Argive army to retake the city of Thebes for Polynikes.

While Amphiaraos was attempting to flee, the god Zeus' threw a lightning bolt which split open the ground, swallowing both Amphiaraos and the chariot.[1]

After his death, a small oracular temple dedicated to him was built on a hill near the border between Boeotia and Attika.[2]
