A statue of Saint Helena in a spring in Lincolnshire

Helena, also known as Helena Augusta or Saint Helena, (c. 247– c. 330)[1] was an empress of the Roman Empire and mother to Roman emperor Constantine I. She was revered as a saint after her death, and by the 870s, she had a church dedicated to her in Colchester, a city in Essex, England.[2]

In Lincolnshire, a spring was also named after Helena in the 9th century, with a statue erected in her image.[2]
