The abandoned settlement in 872

Heillboer was a former Norse settlement in the north of Rygjafylke, Norway. In the 850s, it served as the home of the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir and her parents, Rosta and Varin.

Following a raid by Kjotve the Cruel that resulted in the deaths of Rosta, Varin and numerous villagers, the settlement was subsequently abandoned.[1] In the 870s, the abandoned settlement was revisited by Eivor in her adulthood.[2]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

Heillboer is a combination of the Old Norse words heil, which may mean whole, undamaged, healthy, or success, luck and happiness, and bœr, meaning farmhouse or town.
