The Gorani Marble Quarry was a marble quarry located in the footsteps of Mount Taygetos in Lakonia, Greece.
History[edit | edit source]
In 429 BCE, the Spartan misthios Kassandra was charged by Brasidas to visit the quarry eliminate the Spartan traitor who was arming the helots. In addition, she was also asked to destroy the weapon racks in the quarry to prevent a rebellion.[1]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
The name of the place references the village of Gorani/Goranoi in the former municipal unit of Faris.
