The Family Sword was a sword which once belonged to Pedasos, a Lokrian man during the 5th century BCE, and had been passed down to his adoptive son, Supideo.
History[edit | edit source]
At some point in Supedeo's youth, Pedasos gave the sword and an accompanying shield to the boy, but he preferred to play soldier with them rather than train for war.[1]
During the Peloponnesian War, Supideo brought the weapon to Opous' local blacksmith Kosta to have the blade sharpened, but did not have a chance to take it back upon returning from his fateful trip to the Oracle of Delphi. After she foretold he would kill his mother and cause his father great pain, he resolved to lock himself up to divert fate and spare his parents, who believed he was overreacting.[1]
The Spartan misthios Kassandra overheard their arguing as she passed through the village and offered her assistance, to which Supideo asked that she visit Kosta and pick up his sword. This was easily done, and secure in the knowledge that his parents would be safe, Supideo rewarded her with the sword.[1]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
The Family Sword is a weapon in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey which shares the same model as the Rough Sword, another weapon in the same game.
When the sword is in Kassandra's inventory after reclaiming it from Kosta, the image used is of a Bandit Sword and has the following description:
When he was a child, Supideo's parents handed him a magnificent sword and shield as gifts. Never interested in fighting, however, he used them mostly as toys rather than instruments of war. The Oracle's prophecy changed that.
