Eileithyia was the Greek goddess of childbirth and midwifery, and the daughter of Zeus and Hera. Eilethyia was also known to be associated with Artemis, the moon goddess.

In classical antiquity, she served as the protector of the city of Lato in Pephka. [citation needed] In addition, she also had a temple dedicated to her which, by the 5th century BCE, had sunk into the Octopus Bay, off the coast of Heraklion, Messara.[1]
