Cudjoe's Town was a Maroon settlement in western Jamaica. Established in 1690, the settlement was led by the Akan warrior Cudjoe, and through his leadership, they managed to fight British colonial forces to a standstill in the First Maroon War in the 1730s, forcing Governor Edward Trelawny to offer them a peace treaty.[1] Signed in 1739, the treaty secured the land and autonomy for the Maroons.[2]
