Pasting my reply from Bah-Lamine's blog:
"I didn't really want the film to be about Desmond. It's just going to be a re-telling of the game. I would have preferred a new character that would add new information to the series.
Also, given what he looks like in the picture, I figure he'd make a better Clay than Desmond."
