Athenian Tumulus

The Athenian Tumulus is a burial mound located at the Marathon Beach in Attika, Greece.

Raised by the state to honor the 192 Athenians who were slain during the Battle of Marathon in 490 BCE, the tumulus was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra during the Peloponnesian War. The corresponding tumulus for Plataians who perished in the conflict was located within the Ruins of Plataia in Boeotia.[1]
