Athena Parthenos

Athena Parthenos was a massive chryselephantine sculpture of the Greek goddess Athena, housed in the Parthenon in Athens, Greece.

It was considered one of the greatest achievements of the sculptor, Phidias. During the Peloponnesian War, the statue was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[1]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The statue in Odyssey seems to be based on the Varvakeion Athena, a Roman-era reproduction of the original work made by Phidias.
