"Athena" was the name assumed by a Korinthian woman posing as the Greek goddess Athena and was active during the Peloponnesian War in the Port of Kechries, Korinthia, Greece.
Biography[edit | edit source]
In the 420s BCE, the woman arrived in the Port of Kechries in Korinthia, and while there, she met the eagle bearing Spartan misthios Kassandra. Claiming to know her on fame alone, the woman tasked Kassandra to complete a riddle and investigate a Megarian burial site,[1] and then set a series of task for her to complete.[2]
Following all these tasks, the woman told Kassandra to finally enter the Tomb of Gorgophone under a volcano, and retrieve a helmet.[3] With the helmet in hand, Kassandra returned to the woman. Adjusting the headgear, the woman asked what Kassandra thought of her, and the misthios answered. Satisfied with her answer, the woman then vanished.[4]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
In Assassin's Creed franchise, the Greek goddess Athena is considered to be one of the aliases of the Isu Minerva, hence making this woman an imposter. In Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, the woman is not directly given a name, appearing only as 'Mysterious Woman' if viewed with Ikaros, but the Divine Intervention quest chain is all about questioning whether the Eagle Bearer believes the woman's performance or not.
