History[edit | edit source]

The Yakuza has its origins in the early Edo period, possibly developing out of a gangs of former rōnins from the Sengoku period called kabukimono or from organizations meant to counter these gangs.[1]

In the winter of 2013, a faction of the yakuza called the Onmoraki-Gumi attacked the Japanese Assassins' local cell in Osaka[2] and killed several Assassins, including their mentor Kenichi Mochizuki. By 12 December 2013,[3] Kenichi's wife Saeko Mochizuki took charge of the Brotherhood and launched a successful retaliation against the Onmoraki-Gumi. As a result, she took control of the yakuza's faction to blend her Assassins in the city.[4]
