Templebrough Fort was a fort in Ledecestrescire, England, situated between the crossways of the Trent River and Soar River. It was also near the Witham River on the borders of Lincolnshire.
In 873, Queen Æthelswith, the wife of King Burgred of Mercia, sought refuge at the fort following the Great Heathen Army's assault on Tamworth Fortress. After learning the fort was a possible hiding place of Burgred's, the Vikings Ubba Ragnarsson and Sigurd Styrbjornsson travelled to the fort to capture the Mercian king back to Tamworth, only to learn the Queen was hiding there instead. The two were later joined by Sigurd's adopted sister Eivor as they interrogated the Mercian soldiers on patrol.[1]
Eivor and Sigurd infiltrated the fort and eventually managed to capture Queen Æthelswith, intending to use her as leverage for Burgred's whereabouts.[1]
