The Temple of Antoninus and Faustina (Italian: Tempio di Antonino e Faustina) is an ancient temple in Rome constructed during the 2nd century by the Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius to pay homage to his late wife.
History[edit | edit source]
The Temple of Antoninus and Faustina was originally erected in honor of the deceased wife of Emperor Antonius Pius, Faustina the Elder. 20 years after its inauguration, Antonius Pius also passed away and the temple was rededicated to both of them.[1]
In the 11th century, the Catholic Church decided to make use of the ruins and converted them into the church of San Lorenzo in Miranda.[1]
