Pithekos was an Athenian javelinist who took part in the 428 BCE Olympic Games in Sanctuary of Olympia in Elis, Greece.
After his lucky javelin broke Pithekos lost his drive to even really try. When Aletes sent the Spartan misthios Kassandra to investigate the rumor that Pithekos was off his game, Kassandra learned that Pithekos was in fact cheating: his 'lucky' javelin was "hollow as a reed and nearly as light", but looked identical to the official javelins the competitors were meant to use.[1]
Pleading the misthios to help him, Pithekos asked Kassandra to bring him another javelin just like his lucky one.[1]
