Muhammad IV (died 1526) was the Hafsid Caliph of Ifriqiya, reigning from 1494 to 1526.

Biography[edit | edit source]

In 1511, Muhammad IV accepted bribes from the Templars to allow only Templar-approved merchants to bring goods into the markets of Tunis. However, these bribes were stolen by Ottoman Assassins sent from Constantinople by Ezio Auditore da Firenze, and put to other uses.[1]

In response, the king imposed quotas and mandates on local farmers that served Templar goals rather than the citizens' needs. The Assassins again intervened, eliminating Muhammad's extortionists[2] and cooperating with several Tunisian community leaders to revive the country's crippled economy.[3]
