| At the end of Altair's quest, he killed Al Mualim and took on the role of Grand Master of the Assassins. Al Mualim was a Templar and wanted the 9 most powerful Templars dead because he wanted the Piece of Eden to ensure absolute peace in the world, as he says to Altair in his dying words.
