Sir Francis Drake (c. 1540 – 1596) was an English privateer and navigator during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. He carried out the second circumnavigation of the world from 1577 to 1580. While he was revered as a hero in England for his exploits against the Spanish Empire, Drake became known as a pirate among the Spanish.[1]

Legacy[edit | edit source]

In 1711, the Royal Navy privateer-recruiter Dylan Wallace mentioned Drake among other great privateers, in an effort to convince the sheep-farmer Edward Kenway to join up,[2] which he later would aboard the Emperor.[3] Between 1715 and 1722, Kenway by then a pirate, collected Drake's outfit and weaponry from Sacrifice Island.[4]
