First Civ. But that won't work for what you're asking.

Time Period -- 1st World War and slightly before (like AC3)

Historical Events -- How the war started, obviously, Battle of Tannenburg (can't name anymore off the top-off-my-head).

Historical Actors -- What's-his-name. The German guy who was basicaly the reason for the whole war.

Why is it compelling? -- It's not WW2, it would make much better battle scenes than AC3, more tech, new environment(s), new character, new weapons, more naval battles and it would just be awesome.
