I like most people was a little let down when the news first hit about Assassins Creed 3 being set in colonial America. I mean, I want to free run over giant buildings and make epic leaps of faith off of tall towers. But, then I really started to think about it.
*The Eagle (national bird of the US) is a strong symbol that consistently pops up in the Assassin Creed Universe.
*Desmond is American so how fitting is it that he finally returns home in the final game.
*The temple is in NY.
*The "frozen frontier" is a great idea to differentiate this game from some of the previous ones and to give us, the fans, something new that we haven't seen before. Plus, since it's only going to make up about 1/3 of the game, we'll still have plenty of urban combat/free running.
*There was a lot of grey between the two sides of this war, paving the way for allegences to switch, and betrayals to occur (and the betrayers to be assassinated!)
That's about all I could come up with off the top of my head right now, but I think that the kicker is... It's the first and only (so far) game to be set in the US! Europe and Asia dominated all previous games. I think that the switch to a completely new continent will be a great shift for Desmond's final installment. And who knows, Ubi might continue making games with a new main protaganist and shift to some of the other locations we would all love to see! For now, I'm done whining about things that can't be changed, and more than ready for the next game. C'mon October!
