Around this time, the region's control were contested between the [[Kingdom of Mercia]] under King [[Burgred of Mercia|Burgred]] and the Viking faction [[Sons of Ragnar]], led by the brothers [[Ivarr the Boneless|Ivarr]] and [[Ubba Ragnarsson]].
