Technically, they're the same group, but the German Rite only operated as the Brothers of the Cross during a specific point in time, rather than their entire history. It makes sense, since no other Templar Rites featured within the story. This is kind of the same thing as the conundrum with the Roman Brotherhood, who called themselves the Liberalis Circulum during their own time. I propose that, at the moment, we wait for the game to be released. Perhaps they will be called the Egyptian Rite by someone in modern day.
