			Of course this is as much speculation as the guy above that associated the insignia to the hood, but as I was trying to find a basis for the symbol, I noticed how it looks like the prongs used to brand the mark on the finger of an Assassin in his/her initiation. Particularly in [http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120326134531/assassinscreed/images/thumb/5/59/Ascension_9.png/250px-Ascension_9.png this] and [http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20111023091757/assassinscreed/images/thumb/2/28/Play_along_10.png/250px-Play_along_10.png this] screenshot.

			Previously they cutted the finger, not only for the hidden blade to work but as a symbol of commitment. Then it could mean the symbol is a representation of the tool they used for this, remembering them further of their commitment and their creed.

			And, talking about tools, it is very much like an [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caliper#Types outside caliper] (a measuring tool).

			Anyway, don't revealing the meaning promotes discussion and interpretation, which is cool.

One last thing: Nikola Orelov's image on his page here also has a different version of the emblem. 	Not to sound like I'm ranting I just want to help because The gallery says that one image there shows the Renaissance rendition of the Assassin Emblem, though if I remember correctly, that image was taken from the Codex in AC2, which is written by Altair around the Middle Ages.
