During his [[Papacy|papacy]], [[Clement IV]] requested English philosopher and Franciscan friar [[Roger Bacon]] to write a summary of his achievements, which became known as the ''[[Opus Majus]]''.<ref name="ACR">''[[Assassin's Creed: Revelations]]''</ref>

In 1322, Pope [[John XXII]] declared the Franciscans' vow of poverty to be illegal, claiming that [[Jesus Christ]] had owned property and encouraged his followers to do the same. This meant that the Franciscans were forced to collect money and land which would go to the Pope.<ref name ="DB Santa Croce 2"/><ref name ="DB Santa Croce Id"/>

In 1614, King [[Louis XIII of France]] requested navigator [[Samuel de Champlain]] to bring a number of Franciscan monks (known as the ''{{Wiki|Recollects|Récollets}}'') to [[Canada]] to further life in the newly established French colony.
