After her talk at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, she explained how her music evokes a sense of time and place for the two spots—ancient Egypt and 18th-century France. Overall, Alexandrova felt inspired by Baroque music and found it particularly well-suited to the Rogue game. But one needed to exert much effort to make the sound just perfectly authentic for the ''Curse of the Pharaohs'' DLC actually to identify ancient Egyptian instruments. She found a linkage between the traditional Bulgarian and the Egyptian ones, notably the Bulgarian ''kaval'' and Egyptian ''ney'' flutes, about similar making and sound.
